Seventh Chords

Seventh chords are dissonant harmonies that tend to resolve in a particular manner. Sevenths are freely added to chords in various styles of popular music, especially jazz. However, in Classical music, only three diatonic seventh chords are common: V⁷, vii^Ø7 (vii^O7 in minor), and ii⁷ (ii^Ø7).
