ABSTRACT

Simba can’t wait for the future, as he might be king. Instead of being willing to forgo future privileges, he is not patient at all. This indicates that that Simba is “discounting” the future. This means that consumption in the future is viewed as less valuable than consumption now. Many people share Simba’s attitude and value the present more than the future. The amount in which a person values the present over the future is the subject of much economic research and has implications.
