ABSTRACT

Millie Dillmount and Miss Dorothy meet at a hotel, and they have had different lives to this point. Millie grew up poor but wants to be rich. Miss Dorothy grew up rich but wants to see what life is like for the poor. The song highlights income inequality. Millie is dreaming of the life that Miss Dorothy has, including shopping 170at Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman (luxury retailers). Miss Dorothy wants to try out life where she has to clip coupons and sings she wants to “brown bag all my lunches” and use “layaway to buy my clothes.”
