ABSTRACT

Munch, which is usually called The Scream. Everyone knows this picture; it

is even moulded as a Halloween mask. No wonder thieves have gone to such

lengths to steal it. There is something primal in this scream that speaks to all

of us. We are not allowed to scream; we are asked to calm down and ‘talk

about it’, but usually words cannot express these feelings.A very moving play

called Silent Scream, by Andy Hickson (2002), is touring schools and

colleges. The play is about bullying and its damaging effects. Pupils then take

part in workshops on ‘finding your voice’: finding the voice that will tell, and

not just stay as a silent scream.
