ABSTRACT

Difficulties can be mild, or more severe, and sometimes the difficulties lie in the circumstances around the child. This leaflet will help professionals to start thinking about what they can do to help their child. Remember, children develop at different rates, but if there is a difficulty, it is early home-based intervention that is most likely to be effective in helping their child. Professionals have a very important role to play - but don't forget that their needs are important too. If their child has delays in gross motor and fine motor skills including eye and hand co-ordination, or if he or she was very irritable, or unusually placid, as a baby he or she may be having difficulty with muscle tone or with co-ordinating sensory inputs. Professionals' child may have a sensory integration difficulty, something called cerebral palsy or perhaps dyspraxia.
