ABSTRACT

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is much more common in boys than in girls, but boys generally show a need for much more physical motor activity. Girls generally begin to concentrate on table-top activities for example, at a much younger age than boys. Some people therefore feel that ADHD describes the extreme end of boy's normal patterns of behaviour. Many children, especially young boys are very active and rather distractible or inattentive. Remember, active children are often in trouble with adults so Professionals will need to work very hard to keep their relationship positive with their child. Children with poor attention skills often have weak skills in language and independent play. Children with dyspraxia can be helped if their difficulties are recognised and if they are given the right sort of support and encouragement in school and at home. Children with dyspraxic difficulties may seem to avoid activities that they find difficult.
