ABSTRACT

This exercise is to empower the teenager with the psychoeducation they need to better understand their lack of focus, lack of direction, lack of motivation, or other factors preventing them from fully engaging in life. This will include knowing about the brain systems responsible for the opposite of ‘not doing much’, namely those systems responsible for drive, will and passion. From this new place of awareness and insight, teenagers often decide to take a different direction, to do things differently and get the help they need. The great thing is that it is never too late to activate our brain’s genetically ingrained SEEKING system (system of desire, drive, will and curiosity), even if it has been poorly activated for a long time. As practitioner, your carefully worded and carefully timed encouragement and praise can also enhance the process of the teenager being able to find a more creative and energised response to their life and what they want to do with it.
