ABSTRACT

An organisation called Mindful Employer established in 2004, has identified how people choose not to reveal that they have had mental health problems when applying for jobs. Its mission is to promote positive attitudes to mental health problems in the workplace. It recognises how people with mental health problems have been discriminated against. It quotes the Equality Act of 2010 in the charter for employers who are positive about mental health. Physical pain may be observed, as a person may appear sweaty, body language and facial expression would also reveal something of the nature of the pain. This is not always the case with mental health and many individuals become expert in hiding their true feelings or how disturbed they are. According to No Health without Mental Health the term 'recovery' has developed a specific meaning in mental health that is not the same as, although it is related to 'clinical recovery'.
