The aims of the module are to: encourage self-esteem and self-belief, enable pupils to understand and recognise their own feelings and the feelings of other, and encourage pupils to express their feelings in a positive manner. This is a complex module that incorporates many aspects that pupils will find difficult both in and out of school. It focuses on understanding their own and other’s emotions. It looks at stress and relaxation techniques. It helps pupils to develop their understanding of social situations and offers strategies and advice for what to do when things go wrong. There is a wealth of activities to select depending on the skills of the pupils in the group or the compatibility of the pupils working together. On a piece of paper ask pupils to write down three words they might use to describe themselves. Reinforce with pupils that stress is a natural emotion.
