ABSTRACT

This investigation provides a data-driven examination of mobile media content innovation in Qatar and the UAE. This innovation is leading to a transformation of the journalism and communication landscape in the region, giving rise to a more public engagement and interaction via mobile media. As well, we report evidence regarding production and consumption patterns and a translational framework for understanding mobile media innovation strategies. We offer an assessment of “best practices” in mobile media content in the region. This project represents one of the first large-scale, academic studies of mobile media use.

The structure and features of this chapter include an introduction and a discussion of the principle research questions to be examined in this book, especially the potential disruptive influence of mobile media on journalism in Qatar and the Gulf.
