Break the word into two halves, eg te and nnis. Leave a pause between the two halves,

eg te (pause) nnis. Gradually make the pause that you leave between the two halves of

the word smaller until there is no pause and you are saying the word: ‘tennis’. Try some

of the ideas described in the tips to help a child say longer words that start with s

(Section 4, p96). For example: put two paper hands on the wall. Touch a hand and say te.

Touch the other hand and say nnis. Gradually bring the hands closer together, making the
