ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a narrative intervention programme to enhance the understanding and facilitating the expression of narratives or stories in students with varied speech, language and communication needs in the later primary years and in secondary schools. It details the nineteenth session of the programme. This session provides some examples of famous favourite story songs. In preparation for this session, the facilitator will have chosen a selection of story songs from this list and accessed the words for each one. The facilitator needs to read some of the songs to the students and encourage them to consider the following: the main story components using the story planner; the setting, time and place where the song is set; the main character or characters in the song; the initiating event or first thing that happens to start off the events of the story song; and so on.
