ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a narrative intervention programme to enhance the understanding and facilitating the expression of narratives or stories in students with varied speech, language and communication needs in the later primary years and in secondary schools. It details the fourth session of the programme. The chapter provides some examples of story beginnings which can be used to get students to provide different and exciting middle and end parts of the story. The facilitator reads out the beginning part and each group member takes turns following on from the story beginning, adding the middle and end sections. The student with the story pencil or microphone is the one who has the floor and tells the story. They can pass the story pencil on to another student whenever they like and the next person then has to continue the story. These are suggestions and facilitators are encouraged to add their own as well.
