ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a narrative intervention programme to enhance the understanding and facilitating the expression of narratives or stories in students with varied speech, language and communication needs in the later primary years and in secondary schools. It details the sixth session of the programme. This session identifies all the elements from the story planner of their favourite television programmes. It also identifies the main plot and climax of each story from the television programme. These are some suggestions for a story climax that students can use to build their story around. Facilitator needs to encourage them to think about what precedes these climactic events, who the characters might be in the story and where the time and place would be. They need to explore with students the events leading up to the climax and the outcomes of the story. This session should provide students with the opportunity to make up stories using all components of the story planner.
