ABSTRACT
Chapter 12 deplores the consistent failure by successive governments to give the arts the place in the curriculum that they deserve. It argues for a response that foregrounds the evidence – drawing, inter alia, on a succession of major US and UK enquiries and reports – which confirms that the arts make a profound difference to learning, lives and the national economy; and that exposes the myths by which, for some people, even the strongest evidence is outweighed.
