ABSTRACT

All who are successful today were given the skills to accomplish those feats in school. Serving as an effective, proactive, and responsible school board member allows a school board member to make a positive difference in the lives of those who depend upon him/her. In order to do just that, school board members are a critical part of a team that provides the necessary governance and stewardship for a school district to be successful. And the school district may be very small or the size of a city. As a group of entrusted community stewards, school board member hire someone who can be considered a chief executive officer (CEO) of their school district, the lead educator or educational leader. According to information from the National School Boards Association website, school boards are fairly balanced in gender; roughly three-fourths of them receive no compensation, while others may receive the equivalent of a teacher's pay with benefits.
