ABSTRACT

Community members, conversely, can only rely upon their own firsthand impressions of school or that of their children and families. They don't get the inside track or the depth of information that the board is provided. Board members provide for the care of their community members, quite aptly, by considering their lower-order needs before providing for their higher-order needs. Difference Makers ensure that they provide a safe and orderly school system for community members and families. This ensures that they pay particular attention to emergency management policies, school building code issues, bullying prevention, and a host of other items that need the attention of governance each year. Board members provide for the care of their community by anticipating what "could" happen, given different courses of action, even if their community members do not anticipate it. Community members reach out to board members out of an authentic desire to get something that is good for their own children.
