ABSTRACT

Planning is a critical aspect for psychoeducational groups, as it provides the framework and structure that helps the group to be successful. In this chapter, the phases for planning are described, and group leader tasks are listed. As a primary leader task is to address privacy and safety for group members, presented are discussions and suggestions for informed consent and a social media policy as parts of pre-group planning. Since the cognitive component of psychoeducational groups is important and essential, instructional strategies, materials, and techniques are discussed as a part of the planning process.
