ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5, the focus shifts from specific assessment methods to some broader ideas related to organizing, analyzing, and using assessment data. The chapter suggests the use of portfolios for organizing and sharing student work and growth over time. It also describes approaches to data-informed instruction using a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework and a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). For the purposes of analyzing assessment data, the chapter includes information about the development and use of rubrics and anchor papers, which enable students and teachers to evaluate performance relative to specific standards and criteria. The chapter also suggests a framework for reporting assessment findings and making instructional recommendations based on those results. Finally, it includes recommendations for developing systems to monitor student progress over time.
