ABSTRACT

Chapter 11 concludes with an overview of new audience research protocols and debates, which can in turn anchor and drive the future template for environmental media literacy. There is a lot to do in the meantime before fully appreciating the varying levels of environmental education and literacy afforded by an ever-widening range of media formats being created and developed. It certainly does not appear all that hopeful of late, with worrying trends across the world suggesting a clear backlash towards engaging with environmental risk, not to mention a lack of more creative imaginaries across the established media in particular. We constantly need new modes of narratives to be developed for audiences to actively engage with around the complex nature and ever-changing manifestations of climate change across the planet.
