ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 sets up a comparison between two contemporary modes of documentary practice. Conventional polemical environmental documentaries like Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Sequel it is suggested are mainly speaking to the choir. Nonetheless, this format and mode of address remains essential, as many nations and societies have unfortunately moved even further away from accepting their environmental responsibility. Meanwhile, more easy-going, magazine-format formats, like James May’s Big Ideas, probably speak to less committed environmental audiences and remain important and necessary within the overall media mix.
