ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 seeks to draw connections with earlier studies of eco-film analysis while carrying out readings of a number of recent Hollywood films that frequently speak more indirectly to an environmental agenda. This spans biophiliac engagement with nature in the science fictional fantasy Passengers, to recognising birds as having a natural right to airspace compared with our carbon-wasting air travel in Sully, to the re-booting of the Blade Runner franchise, with its reworking of new modes of farming and post-colonial work practices. All three case studies illustrate a range of ways to promote audio-visual environmental literacy.
