ABSTRACT

Any place can become a crime scene—a car, a home, or even underwater. Each crime scene is unique because the chain of events that create it are unique, but there are unifying themes that dictate how a crime scene is studied and processed. Crime scenes are also fragile and start to change and decay the moment they are created. The objectives of a crime scene investigation are to recognize, preserve, and collect physical evidence at a crime scene with the goal of reconstructing the likely chain of events that generated this evidence. Because know the story of what happened in the example scenario, can identify key evidence. Properly documenting a crime scene is the single most important task of the Crime scene investigators (CSIs). The purpose of this documentation is to permanently record the condition of the crime scene and its physical evidence in as close to original condition as possible.
