ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides a complete package based on sound educational, yogic and psychological philosophies for grounding the body, relaxing the mind and developing a sense of self, love, confidence and feeling safe. It also provides a rationale in terms of the need for this kind of resource and discusses the 'stress points' in children's daily lives, and how these impact on their ability to learn and relate to others and themselves. The book explains the meaning of relaxation, meditation and visualisation in relation to this resource. It describes an overview of the current research and thinking in this area. The book explores the benefits of using the 'Stillpoints' CD on a regular basis, evidenced by the evaluation feedback of the teachers and other professionals who trialled it in the classroom or with individual children.
