ABSTRACT

This chapter offers ideas for things to say and do after read the story, The Frog Who Longed for the Moon to Smile, to a child. The tasks, games and exercises are designed specifically to help a child to think about, express and further digest his feelings about the story's theme. Physical pain needs medicine. But for emotional pain, the best medicine is telling someone really like and trust all about how much one hurt and – if people are brave enough – to let themselves cry in front of that person. For older children, get them to play the 'And then …' game. The therapist or counsellor just helps them explore more and more deeply by saying, 'And then?' after each imagining. What to say to an older child about the dark night of the soul, when he dares to stop trying to get someone who cannot love him to love him.
