ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The unique departure point of the book, and the main discipline in which its discussions are grounded, is that of translation studies. The book examines the relationship between various modalities as one of mutual translation. It shows how collaboration between artists in different fields (literature, comics, etc.)—whether conscious and deliberate or discovered in retrospect—yields new hybrid entities. More generally speaking, the creators of each text and its variations can be regarded as an ensemble, to which every artist brings his or her unique contribution. Visual sociology can benefit from examining graphic novels that contain sociologically significant biographical elements, and political graphic novels and animated films dealing with personal experiences that also shed light on sociological issues.
