ABSTRACT

This chapter provides students with some guidance on how to approach their exams in a way that can help get them the best results they can. It talks about the examination, understanding the question, revision, and exam technique and highlights revision points and exam tips. The examiners mark students' answers according to two principles, known as 'Assessment Objectives' (AOs). They are: AO1407Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the core concepts and methods of philosophy, including through the use of philosophical analysis and AO2Analyse and evaluate philosophical argument to form reasoned judgements. The chapter also talks about epistemology and moral Philosophy. It discusses three types of question. First, there are questions that ask philosophy-studying students to define a concept or explain a single philosophical idea or argument. Second, there are two 9-mark questions that ask them to explain more complex material. Third, there is one 15-mark open-ended essay question that asks them to evaluate a philosophical claim.
