ABSTRACT

In recent years, not only has the volume of savings in the People's Bank rapidly risen, but the composition of savings deposits has also undergone marked changes. It is of interest to note, for instance, that fixed savings deposits have increased as a ratio to total deposits. In 1952 the proportion of fixed savings deposits amounted to 46.6%; at the end of 1957 it rose to 70.3%, and by 1963 it climbed to 82.5%. These changes reflect the profound economic and social changes that had taken place during this period. This is a healthy sign of the continuous economic development and expansion of the national economy and of the rapid improvement of the people's standard of living.
