ABSTRACT

The metaphor of extreme weather is often helpful for children to express

their angry feelings and there are several worksheets with different ideas.

For example, we describe anger as being explosive or like a rumbling volcano

or an earthquake. There is a calm before a storm and a rainbow after the

thunder. There is a bolt of lightning and a thunderbolt, a bolt from the blue

or a bolt in the dark, and it is no good bolting the stable door after the horse

has gone. These are all metaphors to be explored, rather than bolting the

door and confining the child.
