ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how readers can help other parents and colleagues to write and use social stories effectively. It begins by examining the research underpinning the design and delivery of effective training courses for adults and concludes by offering a range of photocopiable materials for those making a start in delivering training about social stories. The stories are presented as a resource to draw from and as models to help those writing their own specific story. The stories should not be reproduced and used directly for other recipients. Each story needs to be different, personalised to meet individual needs. For ease of reference, the stories are organised into age groups. Finer age groupings are identified for the stories written for children whereas there is merely one section for stories for adults. Many of the stories will be relevant for people outside the given age range.
