ABSTRACT

Society is intolerant of and lacks the capabilities to manage emotions in ourselves and in others because we have not experienced constructive modelling in childhood of how to deal with them effectively. Our emotions and moods are a result of how we interpret situations. With little awareness of how moods can begin it is difficult to see situations differently and respond differently. When we are attempting to be mindful of our feelings, we are focusing on observing all emotions and moods as a detached onlooker, like a third person, with an attitude of openness and curiosity. Emotions and moods demand time, attention and tolerance; if we give them what they require there will be less additional pain. But either way it won't be so important what happens because we will feel more able to live with the moods and emotions.
