ABSTRACT

There are many short courses available through other organisations for people who are involved in activity programmes for older people or people with disabilities. One of the best ways of extending knowledge, solving difficulties and obtaining support in the area of activity provision is to make links with others who are working in the same field. Reflective practice should be an essential part of the activity provider's working day. The practitioner who does not know how to evaluate his or her interventions and to engage in self-appraisal is a potential health risk for clients. The purpose of supervision is the personal development of the activity provider in the context of his or her work. The supervisor should preferably be a person somewhat senior to the practitioner who can act as advisor and guide. A senior manager or colleague will be the most likely person.
