ABSTRACT

We have created session plans for 20 sessions and originally ran the group in two blocks of 10 sessions. However, we then carried out the group over a half term, which was fewer sessions. Sometimes the same young people did the group for two half terms and we used different topics. Therefore, this is flexible and the facilitators should decide what is best for their group and setting. The young people can choose the topics. Each session can be delivered as a stand-alone event, as long as an explanation of the four elements is given. We have found, however, that there is far more benefit from all the young people attending all the sessions to grow as a cohesive group and build relationships etc. to be able to trust and take risks with each other. This also means they benefit over time in a cumulative sense.
