ABSTRACT

The physiology of emotions: sometimes known as the adrenalin response, fight-or-flight occurs when the individual perceives that something in the environment is a threat to their security. It is a hard-wired survival response with the chemicals adrenaline and cortisol being released. Mini stressors now are things like work and financial problems rather than the sabre-tooth tigers of our early ancestors. Stress in itself is not necessarily a bad thing; it is when it becomes chronic and a strain on the body’s inner resources that a problem may arise. It is said that health issues can be exacerbated by stress.
