ABSTRACT

A small object to represent the 'treasure' - pretend coins or cubes are ideal. The child reads the card, with help if necessary, and if he can find the treasure, he keeps it. The game can be repeated several times. Place one object under each container. Tell the children to open their eyes, and ask two volunteers to pick up a container each, revealing what is hidden underneath. Small children find it difficult to keep their eyes shut for long. Cover the table with a large cloth as a precaution against anyone peeping. A worksheet for each child depicting an assortment of items suitable for a birthday tea, and several unsuitable items. The children should place their counters on the pictures of jelly, cake, ice-cream and so on, leaving out the unsuitable items such as the medicine bottle, soap or toothpaste.
