ABSTRACT

Introduction Knowing how to tell the time helps us to structure and give order to our busy lives and to function successfully in many situations.

Being able to tell the time can help us to communicate and link more successfully with other people, ie arranging a time to meet or phone which is mutually convenient, or keeping appointments. Knowing the time can help us to avoid negative consequences such as missing deadlines or the bus. A good understanding of clock time helps us to make the best use of our time and to reduce the time that we would otherwise waste, eg waiting for the next bus or needing to book another appointment. It enables us to plan and prepare in advance for future events in a realistic time frame, which can help to reduce anxiety about imminent changes.
