ABSTRACT

Students may think from what they have read so far, that being an excellent tutor will take masses of their precious time. A new group may moan if students insist on them sitting according to their seating plan, but it helps to get to know the students and makes checking their presence or absence easier when they are unfamiliar to them. One quick way to do the register is to have everyone use their register number, instead of their name. If a compulsory school-age pupil is absent, the register must show whether the absence is authorised or unauthorised. Punctuality is a good and sensible habit, so set a good example and have a clear rule with fair sanctions for anyone who is late without a really good reason. Students are very sharp at realising which staffs are gullible and who is able to spot forged notes or excuses, so make sure that they do check obviously and carefully.
