ABSTRACT

Parents want to know that staff will get to know their children really well, that they will care for them and do their best. That means they will feel happy and safe so they can concentrate on learning and enjoying school. Parents hate nothing more than hearing at an annual parents’ evening, that their child has been causing concern for most of the year, while they remained unaware. All educationalists talk about the importance of home/school relationships, there is a distance between home and secondary school that does not exist with the primary school. Most parents are very protective of their child and feel personally criticised when their offspring makes mistakes or does badly. Dealing with parents where child abuse of any sort is suspected can be very tricky. One important thing to note is that it may be the most silent and unobtrusive students who are suffering the most.
