ABSTRACT

This chapter provides scenarios which are designed to give teachers as examples of how the conferencing script and process can be used to manage individual, small and medium-size conferences. They are not prescriptive, merely included to show teachers that they can adapt the process for any situation that is disciplinary in nature. These conferences are almost instantaneous and are facilitated anywhere around the school. Scenarios are examples of an individual conference being used as a brief intervention in the playground, classroom or corridor. There may have been simple breaches of rules: late to class, failure to bring class materials, refusing to share the tasks in group work, swearing, and harassment and bullying at student lockers, exclusion of others. The chapter describes five Scenarios: Late to class, the 'artful dodger', the missing wallet, 'Manners please' and Harassment at the lockers. These case studies represent just one of the many incidents that teachers are asked to sort out by students.
