ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on practical examples and methods of implementing a virtuous approach to accounting and finance education. Various people have already tried and tested some of these with good student feedback. Examples like field trips, stories and narrative, interactive workshops and case studies are illustrated in the chapter to examine how such an approach can enhance the curriculum and improve teaching and student experience. Research shows that both accounting and finance are deeply political enterprises. The political economy of accounting and finance can be taught through sharing research and case studies, as well as by asking learners what they know about corporates and their power. One of the oldest faith and business communities of the world are the Jains. They also happen to be one of the most successful in both accounting and finance. The chapter demonstrates their history, ethics and self-regulating character, and explains how such behaviour made them highly respected and trustworthy.
