ABSTRACT
A rare glimpse of summer sun is shining through the glass, warming his face. Before long,
Max is snoozing quietly. The ferry rocks and lurches gently as it makes its way across the
Irish Sea. An older woman sits beside Max, her knitting in hand. Max opens one eye and
regards the busy needles click-clacking as an infant’s pink knitted jacket gradually takes
shape in her lap. Max closes his eye again and resumes his dozing.
