ABSTRACT

Nancy Bird Walton is a name well known to many people with an interest in aviation and

aeroplanes. She is famous as one of the pioneers of women’s flying. Nancy was born in a

little country town in New South Wales, Australia, in 1915. She was delivered in her mother’s

bed by a midwife in the tiny country house that was their home. The midwife, Mrs Ritchie,

was the woman in the district who came to the aid of all the local women during childbirth.
