ABSTRACT

The aim of the research was to formulate a procedure for Dynamic assessment of language that yielded useful information for planning intervention for children with language disorders. The target population for the test is children aged approximately eight to ten years, although there is some flexibility around the ages because there is no need to match to the criteria of a normative population. The Dynamic Assessment of Sentence Structure was not intended to be diagnostic in the sense that it differentiates children with language disorders from typically developing children, but rather it was intended to add more detail and clinically useful information to the profiles of children already identified as having disordered language. Participating speech and language therapists were provided with all of the materials for the procedure as well as a three-page handout that explained the dynamic and mediational aspects of the assessments and gave guidelines for mediation.
