ABSTRACT

Central to effective behaviour or anger management strategies is, firstly, an ability to recognise the triggers and emotional build-up. Teachers often work in difficult and trying situations with challenging students, where their patience is tested to the limit. They can get to the point where they either lose control completely or at least become aware that their behaviour is out of character and quite unacceptable. Most people have experienced the 'red mist' that seems to come from nowhere, and they find themselves shouting, sweating, their heart pounding, and perhaps worst of all, saying or doing things that, upon reflection, are absolutely 'over the top'. There is no point in expecting all of the advice to be successful all the time. Everybody is an individual and what works for one person in a given situation may not work for another.
