ABSTRACT

This chapter provides practical tips for therapists to warm up before each session—the way actors and all performers do before a show—including what therapists need to do to be: 1) Grounded enough to create a clear and safe frame for themselves and their clients, 2) Relaxed enough to be emotionally and mentally accessible, to absorb new information, and to have the capacity to adapt when necessary, 3) Poised enough to receive and respond, 4) Focused enough to maintain a clear intention and purpose, and 5) Open enough to run with any and all possibilities in the clinical situation.
