ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the various ways love can be accessed and used clinically in the psychotherapeutic situation. Just as actors find empathy, kindredness, and love for even their most challenging characters, therapists can attempt the same with their clients—if they feel safe enough to go there with them. Clinical suggestions and case illustrations provide guidelines for creating enough safety in psychotherapy sessions, so that both the therapist’s and the client’s love—including erotic love—can be used to create healing and growth.
