ABSTRACT

This epilogue summarizes the content of the book, The Performing Art of Therapy, and explores the idea that we all influence each other—in life, in art, and in therapy—even if we only listen quietly while someone else takes center stage. The author weaves together clinical vignettes and personal narratives that include mutually influential dialogues with clients; significant reactions to performances by actress Nicole Kidman; deep conversations with actress Robin Weigert—who plays Kidman’s therapist on the award-winning HBO series, Big Little Lies—references to Robin’s grandmother, the seminal psychoanalyst Edith Wiegert; interactions with relational psychoanalyst Lewis Aron; and ultimately an invitation for the reader to participate in this and every exchange of ideas, creativity, and imagination in their life and work.
