ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 begins by introducing the aims of the book and key points of analysis. Our goal here is to stress the analytical contributions of this work, and to clarify what we mean by understanding contemporary Brazil. We then detail important themes and questions addressed throughout the book, as well as issues of source material and the co-production of knowledge that constitutes a work like this. Following that, we provide an overview of the chapters, noting key topics and debates covered across each one. In the final section of Chapter 1, we highlight notable resources useful for anyone seeking greater insight on Brazil, including websites and institutions with links in English.
