ABSTRACT

The perspectives of engineering employers are discussed in this chapter. In particular, their views on the qualities of an ideal engineer, valuable non-technical skills, and recommendations for improving engineering education in universities are provided. Key dimensions of public-good engineering are also presented based on these data. As such, questions addressed in this chapter include the following: What does industry require of engineers today? What attributes are engineering graduates bringing into the workplace? To what extent do these attributes satisfy employers’ demands? And perhaps most importantly, do the identified attributes have any relevance to public-good, socially just engineering or engineering for sustainable development?
