ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the relationship between science and the study of fire. It describes the roles of agencies and individuals involved in fire investigation. The method of Aristotle was the chief method of finding what then passed for the truth. The methodology of the ancient Greeks espoused rigorous logic in making arguments, but unfortunately, Aristotle did not have much use for experiment. Forensic scientists have duties that are distinct yet complementary to the duties of law enforcement officers or lawyers. Antoine Lavoisier has been called the father of modern chemistry. In addition to the new nomenclature, the treatise discussed chemistry in the light of Lavoisier's new theory of combustion. All of the modules in the CFITrainer.net curriculum are thoroughly vetted prior to being made available and are compliant with the principles and practices espoused by NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033.
